Scapes. - One to three inches high. Leaves. - All from the root, oblong or lance-shaped. Flowers. - White, with two-cleft petals. Pod. - Flat, varying from oval to oblong, lance-shaped.
Whitlow grass may be found flowering along the roadsides and in sandy places during April and May. It came to us from Europe.
The flowers have four deeply notched white petals, and are found an inch or two above the ground by a long stem. The leaves are clustered at the base.
This herb is thought to have medicinal uses and is used externally for minor skin lacerations and fingernail inflammations. Whitlow grass is also edible.
