Wood

Wood is an organic material; in the strict sense wood is produced as secondary xylem in the stems of woody plants. A tree increases in diameter by the formation, between the old wood and the inner bark, of new woody layers which envelop the entire stem, living branches, and roots.

Nature As A Woodcarver: Through the ages tellers of tales have left us legends of certain mythical characters whose spirits have been imprisoned in the bark-clad forms of trees.
